Fanfiction Writer's Meme
i've never done one of these before, but it seems easy enough. i lifted this off maldoror_gw, who's gw fic i once read long ago, and who was reintroduced to me as a naruto writer by bri and caitlin just last night. *gushes* anyway, the meme....
Fanfiction writer's meme
1. What is your penname/nom de plume/author name/alias/handle?
corrupted-innocent
2. How did you choose it?
at the time i started writing, i was just getting into things, like romance and cussing, that weren't considered acceptable reading material for a fourteen-year-old lutheran girl fresh out of private school, and i felt like some of my innocence had been corrupted, but that, at the same time, a lot of the brainwashing that goes on in a private school had been stripped away, and i was... proud, i guess, of the loss of that.
3. What fandom(s) do you write for?
oh, wow, anything; often whatever i'm reading or on a kick for, which can be anything from harry potter to star wars to bleach to buffy to tamora pierce. anything. i would list them all here, but i know i'd forget any fandom that isn't currently on my mind. i have to say, though, that my best plot bunnies are all in harry potter.
4. What fic(s) are you currently working on?
officially, i'm working on 'silver moonshadow', an inuyasha fic that i started... oh, two years ago. unofficially, i haven't looked at sm in months because mostly i write out pages and pages of little ideas that will never become actual fic.
5. What fandom did you start in?
buffy was the first fandom i wrote for, officially. before that, i would get all these ideas, and they would fly around in my head like the feathered keys in hp1, until finally i would lose them to the oblivion of my memory and let my attention be captured by new ones.
6. What is your deepest darkest fic-writing secret?
... i'm a sucker for romance. all my fics are centered around a pairing, if one is available. i have this inability to write something without any kind of pairing to focus on, or even mention. even if it's just in the background of a larger plot-point, there has to be a pairing. even if i'm the only one who knows it's there or coming. sometimes i hate it, but i can't stop it. and, well, it's part of my writing style.
7. Do you have any particular quirks/habits to your writing?
well, i think these are hard to notice in oneself... i know that my writing tends to be less sarcastic than, say, terry pratchet's, or my aneue's. i'm a describer, and i don't tend to have a lot of conversation really close together unless i'm doing it on purpose. i hate using words twice close together- yay for msword thesaurus! i'm very nitpicky about grammar and i'll play with a sentence for fifteen minutes if the structure is bugging me. um... i don't write in present tense much, or first person. third person omnicient past is my favorite mode for writing. other than that, i haven't noticed much.
8. Do you have any fanfiction pet peeves? (Anything that appears in fiction that irritates you, anything at all)
a. bad grammar. i'm sorry, but i just can't read or write soemthing with bad grammar. i can forgive someone who is young or who isn't writing in their first language, and i always give a fic a fighting chance- i'll go through and see if the grammar improves with time. but a big downer of mine with reading fic is when a great story has horrible grammar.
b. plausability. when a character does something really ooc, or suddenly acquires an enormous amount of power or intelligence disproportionate to their age or previous ability. there are some fics, naming no names, where a character less than twelve years old will suddenly become kick-ass powerful and sarcastic and brilliant, just because they 'decided to be' or some such. now, don't get me wrong, i'm all for a character showing hidden depths or making a life-altering decision, or even developing new abilities- but there has to be plausability.
c. yes, of course, mary-sues, but only the obvious ones. i often insert myself through a character, but only to try and figure out what that person would do in a situation, or to structure their character. i can see that in other writers' fic sometimes, and i have no problem with it. the type i hate is the perfect self-insert, when the romance always works out and the bad guy always loses and it's all thanks to little-miss-perfect who didn't know she had it in her, can you believe it? *hate burns*
so, in other news, yay for summer vacation!!!! *lolls about doing nothing* i feel so relaxed and lazy now that school is out, but some days my schedule is so full that i feel like i'm almost back in school again. yeesh. but the heat tells no lies. summer is here, y'all!!!!
