Writer's Block: Once upon a time…

[Error: unknown template qotd]

"The primroses were over." - Watership Down, by Richard Adams

And because a) that was something of a let-down, and b) it feels lke a betrayal to do otherwise, I will include the first lines from the other books on my short stack.

"It was almost December, and Jonas was beginning to be frightened." - The Giver, by Lois Lowry

"It was little more than three miles from the Wall to the Old Kingdom, but that was enough." - Sabriel, by Garth Nix

"It was a dumb thing to do but it wasn't that dumb." - Sunshine, by Robin McKinley

ETA: I would have Good Omens in here too, but someone stole my book and I can't remember the line off the top of my head. Looking at you, Lauren...

ETA2: Shoot, I forgot Tuck Everlasting too. Don't have a copy of that one either... I should fix this. It is clearly a problem.

...you covered all my bases on this answer :P Except the *major* one, of course! So then I had to answer this silly thing for myself!

Oooo, and now I just remembered one I didn't include, dangit...

I still love you! Also, relatedly, I'm going out to run some errands in a bit, if you happen to be home while I'm out I'll swing by with your book, or you can have it back when you come over to sew. Because you're doing that. Right? Right? *glances at the unfinished quilt* I feel I've made my point.

<3<3

Oh, and for the record, the line is "It was a nice day.". Which is rather a crap line considering how amazing the book is, so you get more! "All the days had been nice. There had been rather more than seven of them so far, and rain hadn't been invented yet. But clouds massing east of Eden suggested that the first thunderstorm was on its way, and it was going to be a big one."

Shit. Fuckfuckfuckfuckfuck. Now I'm all into it and want to read it again. D'you think you and Chari could come over and stage an intervention? Or maybe we can hit a bookstore on sunday so I can buy my own damn copy?

yes, i think a trip to the bookstore is in order. the quilt will have to go on the back-burner, though. i only have this weekend to totally clean our old apartment before we turn in the keys, so that's my priority right now.
