dude, jor'el rocks!

watched the first few eps of superman:tas tonight, and i have to say, jor'el (clark's biodad) seriously rocks. srsly. ^______^

anyway, i wanted to ramble on a bit about how completely ballistic-ly AU earth would be if jor'el's plan had succeeded, like it should have: send everyone into the phantom plane or whatever it's called, then jor'el goes to earth and lets them all out again, and they spend a generation or two rebuilding their tech base before finding themselves a new planet. and all the humans are going "wtf?! aliens!" incidentally, i have this theory that the greek/roman gods and goddesses were actually kryptonians. all the kryptonians we've seen have had a very 'greek god' look to them, especially jor'el's family. i mean, how did jor'el know about earth and the way it would affect kal'el's biology? i think they still had stories about their ancestors (not so distant as ours from the same time-period...) ruling earth as gods. they look and act like it, for sure. jor'el would certainly fit right in! and lara's father, who is unexpectedly awesome and whose name i can't remember.... *thinks* anyway, it would not be pretty for the humans. i imagine some of the kryptonians, like the stuffy arrogant council members with the 'funny outfits of krypton' (patented right after the 'funny hats of rassilon'), would feel that they have all these powers that the humans don't, so they ought to rule over the flimsy little humans. i see lots of enslavement and being taken advantage of in humanity's future, and only people like lex and bruce would stand in the way of total control by the kryptonians.

it would kind of suck.

I imagine there would be a lot of arguing between the faction of 'We shouldn't interfere with the humans, we should just build up our tech base and go to a new planet' and the 'We should rule the humans because they're primitive and weak, and why should we waste all our efforts trying to get to a new planet when there's a perfectly good one that we're standing on right now?' Jor-el would be in the former faction, probably. BTW, Sol-van is Kal-el's grandfather. I like the Greek gods idea, the latter faction would probably pull the 'But our ancestors ruled this world, so should we!' card, citing them as precedent. Jor-el would encourage his son to go out among the humans in disguise and mingle so he would understand that humans and Kryptonians aren't so different...and Kal-el meets a very fascinating human named Lex Luthor...*plants plot bunnies, PLANTS THEM EVERYWHERE* *also mixes her metaphors* *because you can't really plant rabbits*

yes, you TOTALLY CAN. *grins* plant them like the rabid little weeds they are!!! (and now i have this mental image of, like, dandelion weeds with fanged bunny heads. oh, god.)

oh, and thanks for the name, btw. sol-van rocks, too. i was trying to come up with a plausible reason for kal'el (is it a dash or an apostrophe? i've seen both...) to come into contact with humans. i think jor'el would kinda be the leader of the whole 'make friends with our human neighbors' campaign, and lex would of course be one of the humans working with the kryptonians, b/c the more he learns from them the more he can use later once they're (hopefully) gone, and also by funding the creation of their tech base he's getting himself worked into their good graces, as much as most kryptonians have them. but yeah, i can definitely see kal'el and lex getting on perfectly.

do kryptonians have last names? i know jor'el's family had a family seal- the s, which to them is pro'ly a big swirl since their alphabet is.... rather atlantian, actually. *grins* anyway, it's all circles and squares, so they wouldn't have a letter like s. but i wonder if they have a family name or something to go with the family crest.

I think (with nothing to go on but the few Kryptonians I've heard of) that you pass down the part of your name after the - to your kids, but it passes down differently depending on if the kid is male or female. Like, theres' Jor-EL, then Kal-EL, then Kon-EL (Conner's actual name). And then Kal-el's mom's name is La-ra (Er, I don't actually think most people write that with a dash, maybe? But it works with my theory), which the -ra was from her mom, because then we have Ka-ra, who is Kal-el's maternal cousin, I believe. So, like Sol-van's *sons* would be something-van, and his wife's name was something-ra, so we get La-ra from that. So if Kal-el had a sister her name would be something-ra, etc. etc.
