so, okay, sprachfest rocked!!!!! the end. not really, though. i have to tell everyone about how awesome it was!!!!!
okay, so we left friday after school. i was in blt during eigth period, and we had hardly anyone there, hence my post during that period. so i was on the computer watching the clock, cause i needed to elave early to pick up stuff from hoem for sprachfest, since the bus left at 4:30. but the clock on that computer was an hour slow, so i thought i was leaving at 3:11 but really it was more like 3:50. boy, was THAT interesting. so we got on the bus, yada yada loading everything etc, and then we were off! we always stop in this one shopping center, san marcos i think, to eat dinner. well, westwood (unser ertzfeind) stopped at the same place at the same time. adine especially was all 'omg hide me!', it was histerical. so me and melissa and louise and adine and sophia all ate at bennigan's, a new experience for me, which was pretty cool. none of us there was 100% american, so yay. then the bus broke down on the highway. ooo~oooh.... that was interesting. so we get to the hotel, and the bus driver proposes we go get ice cream since we had such a traumatising experience sitting on the side of the highway. ^___^ mm, ice cream. some good jokes occured during that drive, btw. anyway, so we get back to the hotel to actually unload at about 10:30 and the hotel curfew is 10:00. no rehearsing allowed, but we ran through the skit in out room before going to bed at midnight. me, melissa, charissa, and katie were all in one room with one bed (and a small cot).
woke up at 6:00, arrived at UTSA at 8:00. first pass auf round was at 8:30. before i even got to the campus that morning, i already had four events scheduled, and nine more to do. i signed up for some stuff real fast before going to my pass auf round, which we lost, though it was fun. pass auf is always fun. and acutally, losing was way better for my schedule. (weird, but true: winning meant at least two more rounds, which i so did not have time for. i didn't have time to EAT in my schedule, let alone do extra pass auf rounds. thirteen events, which is the most i've done yet. and i ended up making TWELVE of them, a new record proportion!!!! so the rest of the day consisted of running around trying to sign up for and then attend all my events. those were: pass auf, listening comp(the one i missed), reading comp, video project and photo essay(turned in at 9 with melissa), poetry memory, prose memory, vocal solo, chorus, skit, scavneger hunt, sight reading, and folk dancing(which doesn't really count since we ended up not doing it). so eleven of twelve, then. still, i only actually completely missed ONE event. i missed the second pass auf round, but onyl because the vocal solos were behind, since chorus was behind before them, since skit was behind before them, so my vocal solo ended up being during our second pass auf round. my last event was scavenger hunt at 1:30, and then i finally got to eat! (thank god for melissa, who knows what to buy me for lunch; she is a godess!) and then there was the awards ceremony, which i remember nothing of, but i got a lot of 1-5 awards; well, no first place awards, but still, i'm going to state. (i'm at church right now, so i don't have my ribbons; i'll put my scores up later.) my bro got fifth for his skit!!!! (yya- he's a goose, but he deserved it, he worked hard.) my brain shut off after scavenger hunt was over, and it didn't turn on till this mornign when i woke up.
i made a friend at westwood, a guy who was doing vocal solo right after me, i think his name was kenneth??? anyway, he placed right above me in vocal solo, so we'll both be at state. i lent him my cd player for his solo, cause he'd forgot one. silly goose! ^_^;; but he was really nice, unlike some other people at westwood. their club is about four or five times the size of ours, so they win sweepstakes at sprachfest every year just by sheer weight of numbers. (warning: what follows is a rant.) a lot of them, especially the girls that happened to be sitting next to us, were really mean about it. we were supposed to be quiet during the announcments until everyone had been called for the event, but they clapped loud when westwood people got an award, and shushed other schools who clapped out of turn for their people. and when they didn't win anything they wouldn't clap for the other schools, even out of p[oliteness, just sat there looking stone-y. and the girl who had a vocal solo and didn't place actualy looked completely offended and shocked. she was expecting first or second and didn't even listen to the lower places, and then when second went to someone else she got all excited and assumed she won first, which she didn't. she looked mortally offended, as though there had been some mistake. i feel bad for her emotionally, but vindicated at the same time.
rant #2: our photo essay didn't place!!! we got 94's on our critique sheets, but we didn't make top five, and i have no idea why!!!! it's ridiculous, we think that maybe they disqualified us for some reason. there was a note on one of the sheets saying that the story was too complicated, like it came from a book, which means they might have thought we plagerized, but they would have just said so then, i think. sometimes they forget to count a piece, like they lose the sheets or something, but i doubt that's what happened. so unless everyone else got higher than 94's on their critique sheets, we got gyped. >_<
so, anyway, then we got on the bus and headed home. i started learning how to contact juggle on the way back, which was fun, especially since we kept dropping the balls. ^____^ i'm pretty sure alex and ben got them all back. anyway, i got home, took a shower, unpacked, and went to brasilia carnival with rhian and rachel. which rocked!!!!! there was lots of dancing and costumes, and some people dressed inappropriately... but it was lots of fun, too. got home after 12:30; i had to beg my parents to extend my curfew, sicne rachel and rhian didn't really wnat to leave until 1:00am at the earliest, but my curfew is midnight. but it was great fun!!!! and then i had to get up and be at church at 8:30 this morning. and i am still here, and will be here till 3:00.
so, yes, there was much excitement. ^______^
