the Navy Hymn, though i took it from synecdochic's sga fic "freedom's just another word for nothing left to lose". long title, long fic, so good. i cried. a lot.

so, i'm feeling kinda melancholy. i dunno why. i feel like immersing myself in angst. what i really need is a vanyel book, but synecdochic will do. *rueful grin*

dunno who bobby mcgee is, though i recognize the name, but actually it's about a canadian named rodney mckay, and you won't get the first thing about it if you don't watch stargate atlantis and ship mcshep. a~angst!!!! it's my kind of fic, and i'm an angst-fiend. makes me cry every time i read it- and i reread it last night, so there ya go. "freedom" is a great example of futurefic, with character death and spoilers and, of course, angst. but also, i love the passive voice syn uses in the writing, and the way she writes rodney's character is amazing- very ic but also not too canon in the plot aspects. so~o touching. *sniffles*

btw, why don't you have any icons?!?!?!? you should at least get my gypsy one and set it as your default; your comments look so bare without an icon. (icons are called "userpics" in technical terms. "icon" is easier. ^___^)

bobby mcgee is a song, most famously sung by janis joplin (i think i spelled that right). one of the lines in the chorus is "freedom's just another word for nothing left to lose."

i can't bring it up north with me, unfortunately. but if you search out syn on lj, i'm sure she'll have a link to it- it's her story. ^___^ that's what fic is, you know. and this is the good fic, the kind of fic that could be published. actually, i know a girl on lj who publishes fantasy. ever read the temeraire books? by naomi novak? well, naomi novak goes by schalott or astolat when she's online, and i've read some great fic from her. astolat is her lj name, i believe. whichever it is, she's on my f-list. she's currently in africa with cesperanza, but her third book "black powder war" just came out- i'm reading it tomorrow on the plane up to madison.

a~anyway, i was telling you that "freedom" is a fic, not a book, so... yeah.

um... slight warning. i know you know what slash is, if you've spent more than ten minutes talking fandoms with caitlin. so, warning: syn writes slash, and i read it, because it is just that good. "freedom" is slash, too. if you squint. really hard. and also, as i was telling chari: if you don't watch sga you won't have the first clue what's going on. sorry.
