mm.... good day today. algebra was a waste, as per usual, but it's the class that will ensure me a 3.5 gpa, so i endure it. human sit discussion was pretty fun, actually; we did our closing discussion on the iliad and segued a bit into sappho. sappho is the only female author we're doing this semester in human sit. she's the first recorded female writer/poet/composer in western civilization; she was a lesbian (supposedly) and a Lesbian (she was born on the island Lesbos). her poetry has survived only in fragments, having fallen out of style in ancient greece b/c it was written in a local dialect instead of the mainstream language of the time. of some of her poems, we have only a few lines, a word here and there, while others we have paragraphs or pages full. sappho writes:

"evening
you gather back
all that dazzling dawn has put asunder:
you gather a lamb
gather a kid
gather a child to its mother

of all the stars most beautiful"

i really loved reading her poetry. it's all about relationships, love, nature, peace; it's very smooth, slow, sensual to read, and after the iliad i found it refreshing. the gaps don't take away from it, but rather make me curious, wondering what she meant by the words that trail off into blank space.

anyway, then we had a lecture for arch, not required, but heavily suggested; i went, and it was actually really informative and surprising. the lady was talking about preconstructed housing through the 18th and 19th centuries, and i was amazed as to how much of what i thought was normal housing is actually prefabricated. *drabbles* okay, i'll stop being nerdy. after that was studio, then me and sara watched house. house!!!! alien twin-brother kid!!!! i love that show so much. *glee*

anyway, i have three projects due tomorrow in studio, and i finished about ten minutes ago. it took an insanely long time to do, so, about par for the course in studio. *grins* but i had so much fun. the past few hours, it was just me, nick, and brian, so we were talking and listening to music and being totally unproductive. some pretty crazy stuff happened:

-brian made a shuriken out of spare exacto blades and drafting tape, and we threw it at a target drawn on a mistake project until we hit it in the middle consistently
-nick dropped his knife and it lodged point down in his stool- right between his legs ^/__^
-we took pictures of the color samples spread out on the cutting table; it looks awesome, i can't wait to develop the pics
-i found out that brian has a kilt!!!!! (omg squee)
-nick knows kendo and tae kwon do, in an unprofessional 'i watch other ppl and read about it a lot' kind of way, and he's an anime nerd, so we talked naruto and cosplay for a bit; brian was confused immensely (that's ironic b/c he's half-japanese.)

so in general, i love my classes, and today was lots of fun.

oh, and i didn't get attacked by the drink machine in the cafeteria today either. yesterday the slushy machine went awol on me and i had slushy juice from abdomen to knees; it looked remarkably like a bloodstain. *grins* slushy machine: 1; jenny: 0.

Our discussion was so cool today! We essentially did an honors version of mad libs, lol. She put us in groups and assigned us each a fragment to read, discuss, analyze, and re-bloody-write. We had to stick to her format and not change any of her words. It was such a great challenge! I wrote my groups interpretation, it was rad. It was frag 88, if you've got the book handy. Meet me for lunch tomorrow and I'll show you our version : D

Honestly, it was really cool. I think frag 88 references frag 16 at least a little, so we took it from there. Basially, in our version, a person (we think prolly Sappho) is addressing her lover, because thery can't be together, and the speaker is basically saying go, but I will always carry your love with me, and know that I love you. My theory that prof. Klett seemed to buy was that Sappho had a lover that had to take a husband due to social mores.

My dad called the twin brother thing as soon as they found the different DNA in the kid's heart.

HA! Defeated by a slushy machine, shame on you! :P I posted a fic snipped on sportshoes, check it out!

I feel like I didn't understand half the words in that paragraph. WHAT TIME ARE YOU GETTING IN TOWN?!?!
WHAT TIME CAN I STEAL YOU ON SATURDAY?!?!
And what about twins? I haven't watched the ep yet (stupid parents wanted to let it record and watch a re-run of frikkin ghost whisperer instead.)
I laugh at the slushie, and I think I'd like the Brian guy (and not just because our names are the same!)
