myurbandreamTXDOT is spending $9 Billion (with a B) dollars to reroute I-45 through downtown Houston and add drainage underneath multiple highways inside the loop, including under I-10.

The drainage I agree is necessary... But what if we spent the rest of that money on mass transit?
How much would it cost to add BRT from the surrounding cities into downtown Houston? How much would commuter rail cost? How much to build out Metro's light rail network? How much to implement the entire protected bike network on city streets?
I bet several of those have a cheaper price tag than $9 Billion....
